The mileage log that stays on your phone
A mileage log is a list of where you have been, with times. It is among the most personal records a small business keeps. Where that list lives is a real question, not only a technical one.
Where the journeys are
In this log, journeys are stored in the browser on your phone. They are not sent to us and we hold no copy. Your position is used to work out the distance while you drive, and stays in the log on the device.
We count visits anonymously to see whether the site works. Your position is never part of that.
The trade-off: the backup is yours
There is an honest downside to keeping data locally: clear your browser data, or lose the phone, and the log is gone. There is no account to restore from.
So download the log regularly — at least when the tax year ends, and ideally more often. The file is your data, and it carries the fingerprints that let anyone check that nothing has been altered afterwards.
What a tracker box sees
A fitted tracking unit records the driving independently of your phone and sends it to the supplier's service. That is convenient, and for some fleets it is the right answer.
It is worth knowing what the agreement says about who can see the history, how long it is kept, and what happens to the data when the contract ends. Ask for that in writing before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
Can you see where I drive?
No. Journeys are stored in the browser on your phone and are not sent to us.
What happens if I clear my browser data?
The log is gone. Download it regularly; the file is your data.
Can I move the log to a new phone?
Download the file on the old phone. It can be checked again anywhere, including in the desktop program.
