About the log
Why it exists
Most mileage apps are free until you hit a trip ceiling — twenty or forty journeys a month — and then ask for a subscription, or they sell you a box for the car on a long contract. Your phone already knows where you drive. This log uses it, and it is free with no trip limit.
Where your data lives
Journeys are stored in the browser on your phone. They are not sent to us. That also means that if you clear your browser data or lose the phone, the log is gone — download it regularly. We count visits anonymously to see whether the site works; your position is never part of that.
How the seal works
Every entry gets a SHA-256 fingerprint worked out from its own contents and the fingerprint of the entry before it. Change one mile in an old journey and the fingerprint no longer matches, nor does any that follows. The check in the app and in the desktop program recompute all of it and show where the chain breaks.
What the rules say, and what they do not
HMRC does not prescribe a form for a mileage log, but to claim the approved mileage rate you must be able to show the business journeys behind it: the date, where you went and how far. If you have claimed capital allowances on the vehicle you cannot use the flat rate at all, and once you use flat rates for a vehicle you must keep using them while it is in the business. This log is not accounting software and not tax advice; take questions about your own vehicle to your accountant.
HMRC's mileage rates (GOV.UK)What it costs
Nothing. It costs us nothing beyond sitting on our server, so it costs you nothing either — no contract, no renewal, no account, and no limit on how many journeys you log. If you would like to give something back there is a support button on the front page. It is entirely optional, and everything works the same without it.
